The sun was setting on immigration as the last of our families arrived in the first half of the 19th century, coming from Scotland (4) and one each from Ireland and Germany.
1804-1821 Matthew Geary left County Down, Ireland for Osbornes Mills, Roane, West Virginia where he married Elizabeth Ashley. They are 3rd great-grandparents in Glenna’s maternal line.
1820-1849 Andrew Speigle came from Germany to Larimer Twp, Somerset, Pennsylvania and is a 2nd great-grandfather in Glenna’s paternal line.
1843 At the age of sixty, William Begg and his wife Elizabeth (Cowie) came with their children Janet and Robert as well as their son Jonnathon and his wife Mary (Whyte) on the ship Navarro from Cumbernauld, Dunbarton, Scotland leaving from Port of Glasgow, Scotland and sailing to New York. William and Elizabeth are 3rd great-grandparents, and Jonnathon and Mary are 2nd great-grandparents in David’s maternal line.

Glasgow developed into a port of international prominence, at one stage trading more tobacco in one year (1757) than all other British ports, including London, together. This later engraving shows a bustling Port Glasgow in the 1841. Note the dock-workers sitting on the unloaded Hogsheads (perhaps filled with sugar or tobacco), as well as others taking out boxes of stores (perhaps destined for the West Indies) onto the pier. https://glasgowwestindies.wordpress.com/category/west-indies/
With the arrival of the Begg family from Scotland, the palette is complete. Out of these hardy and courageous people, the Armentrout family painting continues. What follows is a listing of immigrants for each family line.
